Te Uru Miro is the name for our Maori Collection. Te Uru Miro – The Miro Grove is derived from the whakatauki proverb that a bird who has access to the miro berries, has access to the forest, while he who has access to learning commands the world.
Our collection includes resources on Maori language, history and people (including iwi histories and whakapapa), myth and legend (nga pakiwaitara), cultural practices (tikanga), art (nga toi), carving (whakairo, food and cookery (kai) and medicine (rongoa) We also have a variety of children’s non-fiction titles and books, along with audio visual material.
This year Maori Language week runs from 21-27 July.
