Heritage Month 2009
By Susan @ 6:54 p.m. :: 661 Views :: Heritage

October is our second annual Heritage Month at bookinopolis. This is an opportunity to celebrate the rich history of Franklin as we raise awareness of the stories of our unique people, places and events and to emphasise the importance and benefits of conserving them. We also want to promote and develop the heritage material held in the collections at bookinopolis.

This year we are focussing on three streets; Edinburgh Street in Pukekohe, King Street in Waiuku and River Road in Tuakau. If you have any old photos of these streets that you are willing to share with please bring them along to the library so that we can copy them for our collection. Our displays will feature historic photos of these streets, from the library's photographic archive and from national digital collections.

All of our libraries hold books, booklets, photographs, newspaper articles etc. dealing with the history of Franklin.

What were you doing in the 1950s? We are on the hunt for photographs of Franklin in the 1950’s. Bring your photos along to the library and tell us your stories. We would love to hear them and preserve them for our collection.
